In early
August, the town of Foulpointe, where CRMF does some of its work, was destroyed in a massive fire. The incident started when
a cooking fire ignited a nearby vehicle and quickly spread through the town. Eighty percent of the town was destroyed and
2,000 people are homeless. CRMF sent emergency funds to help provide basic supplies.
Members
of the CRMF team, including Brother Edwin, visited the town immediately to view the damage and assess areas of greatest need.
They distributed clothing that CRMF had shipped to Madagascar, as most people had only what they were wearing. The team also
planned for water, sanitation and temporary housing. Many villagers needed cooking utensils, as theirs had been destroyed
and they were trying to use large pieces of bamboo to prepare food. CRMF provided
$5,000 in emergency funds to purchase cooking supplies. Our team, working together with the Red Cross and the local authorities,
distributed pots and spoons to 800 families in the village. The local media
covered the event and expressed their gratitude to CRMF.
Thank
you to our on-site team and donors for their help with this truly tragic event.
