Cyclone Giovanna Destroys Homes and Lives

On Tuesday, 2/14, the Tamatave region of Madagascar received a direct hit from Cyclone Giovanna. The results are devestating. Over 11,000 people have nowhere to live, with 70% of the town of Brickaville completely destroyed. Homes, schools, hospitals and offices are unusable, and although the storm is over the risk of malaria is high. Brother Edwin Joseph of the Order of St Gabriel, made the following observations,

"This is one of the worst cyclone I am seeing in Madagascar. Hundreds of villages destroyed. Its heart breaking to see the hundreds of villages ravaged. Most of the agricultural crops completely destroyed. "

He has lived and worked in madagascar for years. Multiple international aid groups are involved trying to provide basic shelter, clean water and medicines to those impacted by the storm, but additional financial support will be critical to rebuild. Even the smallest donation can make a huge difference.
